Rising Sun Academy

Rising Sun Academy studies RyuTe®, a classical Okinawan karate system.  We
offer intensive instruction to both adults and children.  Moreover, we specialize
in teaching our youth the fundamentals and complexities of RyuTe® basics
which empowers them physically, mentally and enhances then ethically.

RyuTe® originated on the island of Okinawa.  It employs those techniques used
by the ancient warriors of the RyuKyu islands.  This system of karate is strictly
used for life protection purposes and not for sport or play.  It has three major
subdivisions for self-defense:  tuite jitsu (grappling), kyusho jitsu (vital point
striking) and
kobudo (ancient weapons training).

The children's program, however, consists of three main parts in the effort to
keep them continuously interested and wanting to come back for more.

1.  Exercise

    2.  RyuTe® drills (basic exercise ten count, transition, timing, criss-cross,
kicks, punches, line work, stepping, kata, etc.)

    3.  Karate related games (rubber tonbo fighting, rubber kendo fighting,
foam battle sticks as well as timed obstacle courses which consist of
forward rolls and other various break falls.  This is the last 15 minutes of a
45-minute session and probably the most fun part that they remember
when they leave and brings them back.  (Little do they know that the
rubber weapons they battle with enhance their open hand movements.)

As you will see in our class schedule, every Monday evening is devoted to the
study of weapons kata for children and adults starting at the orange belt level.
Every Tuesday evening you will find children and teens sparring in full protective
gear.

At Rising Sun Academy we use RyuTe® to develop good ethics, a cooperative
attitude, discipline, humility and a good moral character.  Our classical training
program is designed to prepare the student for a real threat to his/her life and
this training makes the student ethical, disciplined, humble and focused.

In the adult kyu rank program we study strong RyuTe® basics, theory and the
applications of bunkai found in kata that leads to the art of tuite jitsu and kyusho
jitsu.  Additionally the adults practice bogu kumite in an effort to enhance their
self-defense skills and bring back a spirit that could be found years ago in Taika
Oyata's original Okinawa dojo.

Behind closed doors on weekday mornings and early Saturday mornings, black
belts of the Academy  practice the complexities of new levels in RyuTe® that
Taika is taking us to.
