The Rising Sun Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy was established in 2004 and has become an integral part of our community by providing proven self defense techniques and seminars, helping kids, teens and adults to learn how to defend themselves and much more.

We love to compete although it is strictly voluntary. But what Competition does is that it allows you to test your jiu jitsu versus others. "Competition is the best form of cross training".

Dennis J. Melone

Head Instructor of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kempo Newaza and MMA

Studying Martial Arts since 1979. 6th Degree Blackbelt under the late Legendary Okinawan Master Taika Seiyu Oyata. Member of Oyata's Elite Shun Shu Ho. Founder of Kempo Newaza Jitsu and the first American Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blackbelt directly under Master Paulao Rezende. Master Rezende's notable students include Marcelo Garcia, Damien Maia, Reinaldo Ribeiro, Gustavo De Lima, Rodrigo Ranieri de Faria, Rodnei Barbosa, Neo Caibra and Gargamel Carvalho.
